Wimbledon Tennis Nails

We’re right in the middle of it: the legendary Wimbledon tennis tournament is in full swing right now with the best tennis players in the world fighting for a chance to win the year’s 3rd Grand Slam!

Among the many nail polish bottles I love, I found a couple to help me illustrate my passion for tennis, and more specifically for the world’s only tennis Grand Slam on a grass court! If you’ve ever been there, I’m sure you’ll agree with me that a tiny part of your heart is still in Wimbledon! That place is special! Its beautiful houses, the atmosphere, the people, the players, the courts! Everything about Wimbledon makes my heart flutter!

Don’t miss: Pixar’s Inside Out Nails!

You may have expected a lot of green – because of Wimbledon’s legendary lawn – and some fluorescent yellow to depict the tennis balls: well, surprise, surprise! None of those but strawberries aplenty! Did you know that no less than 142,000 portions of strawberries and cream were sold in 2012 at Wimbledon? Tennis, yes, sure, but ask anyone – Wimbledon is about strawberries and cream!

And towels ^_^ – at the Wimbledon shop, towelling products are the best selling category of Wimbledon-related merchandise! I picked a print that’s on towels, mugs, bags and wallets – actually I picked two prints! The first is called “Perfect Match” and it brings together the strawberries and the tennis racquets. I’ve done it all freehand with OPI’s Cajun Shrimp for the strawberries and China Glaze Keeping it Teal for the wee leaves. The racquets and the dots on the strawberries I did using OPI’s Alpine Snow. The black contouring really adds a cartoon-ish dimension I love!

Don’t miss: The Minions Movie nails!

Since there are two weeks of Wimbledon, I did two Wimbledon Nails to match! Also – I must’ve been really hungry or utterly craving because I only chose strawberry motifs for my Wimbledon nail art! Go figure!

I painted the second design on a neutral base of OPI Don’t Bossa Nova me Around. For the strawberries I used China Glaze Keeping it Teal for the green part and Zoya Sweet and Zoya Kara for the fruity part. The balls were painted using OPI’s Alpine Snow and the trickiest part – the serving tennis player was painted using the trembled-technique – a largely used brushing approach, especially for first-timers like myself!

Overall I had fun painting these and it really gives me a lot of pleasure to be able to blend in my passions for tennis and nail art to honor such a special tournament! Wimbledon, Strawberry fields forever!
