If you’ve come this far, this means you already read The Essential Nails-at-Home Guide Part ONE and Part TWO. Didn’t you? If you didn’t, please consider doing so – it’s really helpful in establishing a healthy nail care routine!

We are – keep this in mind – talking about the very basics of doing your nails at home. You don’t really need a wall of nail polish bottles to obtain quality manicures. Au contraire, the creativity engine runs better and more efficiently on low supply.

However, just like every girl needs a little black dress and a pair of faithful, timeless stiletto shoes, you need a bottle of black nail polish, a bottle of red nail polish and a bottle of shiny glitter (topcoat) polish. There’s just no replacement for those: you gotta have the classics!

Long or short nails, two coats of red or black lacquer change everything. Be careful to start with the base coat and to finish with the cleanup of the cuticles – nothing kills a manicure faster than messy cuticles!

Another vital aspect is quality! Don’t go for the cheap options! The red & black nails need to make a statement on their own. Thusly, you need lacquer that dries fast, has full opaque coverage in just two coats and doesn’t chip the next day!

If you need a bit of sparkle, use the glitter topcoat – think of it as enhancing your eyes makeup for a night out! I went for a simple silver holo glitter as I think it’s versatile and effective on both colors! (I used Konad holo glitter topcoat but you can also try any other small glitter top coat).
