Spring Mani: Freehand Cherry Blossom Nails

What to do when your nail polish base is so inspiring, you can’t stop imagining matching nail art to paint over? You set your creativity free and you come up with not one but two flowers nail arts!

I kept my custom made baby blue nails for another round of Spring nail art, also freehand, also way easier than you may imagine! Cherry Blossom Nails – a spring classic – don’t you wish you wear it on your pretty nails this season? We’re just weeks away from the actual blossoming trees (daydreaming)!

You’ve seen the blue before when I did my happy daisies, so you know the combo – a custom made blend with Zoya Robyn and Orly Pink Whisper (and a couple of nail polish thinner). I was so happy with the outcome and so amazed by how beautiful this shade turned out – especially since I did it – I couldn’t stop taking pictures of it!

Ok. Now! About the cherry blossom nails: it’s all freehand, using a thin nail art brush dipped in OPI Holiday Glow for the branches. The flowers were painted using the bottle brush straight on the nail with China Glaze Bottoms Up pink. With the thin stripping nail art brush dipped in Zoya Ali I added some irregular dots here and there, to fake the shadow and the final touch with Orly Pink Whisper, also with the bottle brush, directly over the China Glaze ‘flowers’.

The extra transparency creates a 3D illusion and a depth that’s absolutely perfect for cherry blossoms! Of course it’s not meant to be perfect, but it’s incredibly easy to do and I can attest that it’s the perfect type of nail art for your non-dominant hand! You can tremble, you can smudge and mess up, the cherry blossoms are over-forgiving!

As a special extra touch, like floating cherry petals, I added tiny glitters using a dotting tool and FGT Sweet Pea pink glitter polish. Instead of taking a bunch of pictures, I caught the entire cherry blossom process on camera and speed it up into a very quick nail art tutorial I hope you enjoy and use as a starting point for your cherry blossom nails!
