Smoke And Fire Nails

Smoke has been on my mind for the last couple of days. I sometimes get too carried away in decorating and wanting to have fun at all costs that I overlook the fundamentals. All Hallows Eve – the three days of remembrance for all departed souls.

Today we should celebrate All Souls Day whereas All Hallow’s Day was yesterday, on November the 1st. After the fun and the commercial storm usually associated with Halloween and the trick-or-treat activities, I’m left with a rather bitter feeling that I had honored the mighty $ more than the ‘Hallows’ and the ‘Saints’. So that’s how these smoke nails came about!

Over a neutral base (my loyal Orly Blushalicious) covered in a generous layer of transparent topcoat, all dried out, I painted random lines of highly contrasting solid nail polish. Quickly, with a rather wide brush dipped in pure acetone, pass over the polish lines to dilute them.

The result is quite amazing and doesn’t require any application science at all. Much like the ‘watercolor effect’ we discussed numerous times before, thinning out nail polish is a marvelous painting technique creating fabulous effect like the smoke nails, a hollow, irregular way to create shapes using contrasting colors.

Much like the literature depicted spirits and the spiritual hallows, smoke is the mysterious fume raising pulses and questions, enveloping the autumnal landscapes and the enchanted forests alike. Since you know my habit of painting my two hands with non-identical sister manicures, this time is no different either.

There’s no smoke without fire, so here’s the other hand’s nail art, taking care of the fire in our hearts, keeping the light forever shining for the souls of the departed, hope and love united wishing they find peace wherever they are!
